We Found All of Denali’s Big 4

In today’s video, we take our RV from Talkeetna to Denali National Park for one of the most incredible adventures of our entire Alaska RV trip!

We have reservations at TWO campgrounds inside Denali, and this video takes you along for both experiences. Our first stop is Riley Creek Campground, near the entrance to Denali National Park. We explore the park on a couple of hikes, take in the breathtaking Alaska scenery, spot moose, explore the Denali Visitor Center, and enjoy the incredibly entertaining Denali Cabin Night Dinner Theater.

And then we meet some of Denali’s cutest residents! 🐕❤️ We attend the Denali Sled Dog Demonstration, where we learn about the role of sled dogs in Denali’s history—and, of course, get completely distracted by the adorable puppies!

But our adventure is just getting started.

We pack up the RV and head deep into Denali National Park to Teklanika Campground—the furthest you can drive an RV into the park. From there, we ride the Denali bus system farther into the park, head out on a tundra hike, and experience the incredible wilderness of Denali.

And then we get the wildlife experience we came to Alaska hoping for…

We Land on a Glacier on Mt. Denali

We’re continuing our Grand Alaska RV Adventure, and today we’re checking a HUGE bucket-list experience off our list — flying over Mt. McKinley (Denali) and LANDING ON A GLACIER! 😱❄️

In today’s video, we made our way to Talkeetna, Alaska, where we boarded a flight with Talkeetna Air Service for an unforgettable flightseeing adventure into the heart of the Alaska Range. The views were absolutely incredible as we flew through the valleys and over the massive glaciers surrounding Denali National Park. We had spectacular views of Mt. McKinley (Denali) and the surrounding mountains before something happened that made this experience truly unforgettable… We landed on a glacier at the foot of Mt. McKinley! Standing on a glacier surrounded by the Alaska Range was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives.

This was definitely one of the highlights of our entire Alaska RV trip — and an experience we will never forget.

After our flight, we headed back into Talkeetna to explore this quirky and historic Alaska town. We grabbed dinner and a drink at Denali Brewing Company and then tried something we had heard all about — the famous Talkeetna spinach bread! And yes… it was GREAT! 😋

Everyone Told Us to SKIP Fairbanks Alaska… THEY WERE WRONG!

Everyone told us to SKIP Fairbanks, Alaska. They said it wasn’t worth visiting. They said there was nothing to do.

After spending 7 days here, we’re here to tell you… THEY WERE WRONG!

Watch as our grand RV adventure through Alaska continues as we make our way toward Fairbanks, traveling through Delta Junction and the official end of the Alaska Highway. And Fairbanks quickly turned into one of the biggest surprises of our entire Alaska trip.

We start with a day trip to Chena Hot Springs, where we soak in the warm mineral waters and explore the incredible Ice Museum. But getting there was just as exciting—along the way we encounter some of the best moose sightings of our entire Alaska adventure! 🫎

Then we climb aboard an amazing paddle wheel riverboat tour. This wasn’t your typical sightseeing cruise. We watched a float plane demonstration, visited a Native fish camp, saw an Iditarod championship sled dog demonstration, and experienced so much more. It turned out to be one of our favorite tours of the entire trip. And then Alaska really turned up the cold. 40 DEGREES BELOW ZERO! 🥶 We experienced what an Alaska winter feels like at 40° below zero and discovered just how extreme life in Interior Alaska can be.

We also toured historic Gold Dredge 8, learned about Alaska’s gold-mining history and the Alaska Pipeline, and tried our hand at gold panning. And yes… WE STRUCK GOLD! 💰 Okay, it was only about $36 worth of gold, but we’re calling that a win! 😂

We made a stop in North Pole, Alaska, where we met Santa and sent letters back home to our grandchildren. North Pole itself was a little disappointing, but the Santa stop made the visit worthwhile.

One of our favorite unexpected discoveries was Hoarfrost Distilling, a locally owned Fairbanks distillery run by young entrepreneurs Logan and Alexess. Great cocktails, a unique local experience, and two wonderful hosts. If you’re visiting Fairbanks, this is one we think you shouldn’t miss! Then we celebrated America’s 250th birthday right in Fairbanks at the Pioneer Park celebrations before heading to a Goldpanners collegiate summer baseball game. We had an absolute blast!

And, of course, the Alaska Cinnamon Roll Challenge continues! 🍥 This time we’re checking out Marlo’s Bakery and their cinnamon rolls and pastries. Let’s just say… they did not disappoint!

After seven days in Fairbanks, we’ve reached a very different conclusion than the people who told us to skip it: DON’T SKIP FAIRBANKS! Surviving Top of the World Highway in our RV

After thousands of miles through Canada, we finally reach the moment we’ve been waiting for…crossing into ALASKA! But getting there wasn’t easy.

Today in the video, we leave our campground outside Dawson City and head onto the legendary Top of the World Highway, one of the most talked-about roads on the Alaska Highway system. Known for rough gravel sections, steep climbs, and breathtaking mountain views, this road has a reputation for testing both drivers and vehicles. Was it really as bad as everyone says?

Along the way we’re treated to some of the most spectacular scenery of our entire Alaska adventure. Nancy hikes to one last overlook near the Canada–Alaska border for incredible panoramic views before we officially cross into Alaska for the first time!

After filming our border crossing, things get even rougher as we tackle the infamous stretch between the U.S. border and Chicken, Alaska. Thankfully, the reward is worth it—a stop at the legendary Chicken Café, home to what may be the BEST cinnamon roll we’ve eaten on our entire trip.

From there we continue down the rugged Taylor Highway to Tok, Alaska—the Gateway to Alaska—where nearly every highway traveler eventually passes through.

We wrap up the day at the famous Sourdough Campground, where Mike and Nancy take on the campground’s legendary pancake toss challenge!

We Survived the Worst Roads Going to Dawson City in the Yukon

Today our Alaska RV adventure takes us from some of the worst roads we’ve encountered on this entire trip to one of the strangest experiences we’ve ever had! We leave our beautiful campsite at Tatchun Lake and immediately discover that getting to Dawson City isn’t going to be easy. We battle miles of washboard roads, massive potholes, construction, clouds of dust, and stretches where the road seems to disappear completely, leaving us driving on little more than a dirt track.

Gracie the Gray Nomad and our Super C motorhome take a serious beating before we finally make it to Dawson City, Yukon. And what a destination! Dawson City feels like stepping straight into the Klondike Gold Rush. Dirt streets, historic buildings, and an entire town that seems frozen in time make this one of the most fascinating places we’ve visited on our Alaska adventure.

Our first stop is the Yukon River ferry, where we load Gracie and cross to our campground on the opposite side of the river. This turns out to be a smart move because the Top of the World Highway begins on this side of the river—and ferry waits can sometimes stretch for hours. Luckily, we barely had to wait before getting Gracie on the ferry.

We set up at the beautiful Yukon River Campground and then head back across the river to explore Dawson City. We visit Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall and Saloon, enjoy the famous Can-Can show, have a few drinks, and experience the wild Gold Rush atmosphere of this incredible town.

The next day, those horrible roads catch up with us. We spend some time doing RV maintenance and repairing windshield cracks and chips caused by the rough Yukon roads. Then we go searching for something completely different—the Paddlewheel Boat Graveyard. We find the abandoned paddlewheel boats along the Yukon River and explore the wreckage like a couple of amateur archaeologists. This turns out to be one of Mike’s favorite discoveries in Dawson City! But the strangest—and probably grossest—part of our Dawson City adventure is still ahead.

We head to the Sourdough Saloon to attempt the infamous Sourtoe Cocktail. Yes…there is a REAL HUMAN TOE in the glass. Both Mike AND Nancy take the challenge, drinking the shot while allowing the toe to actually touch their lips. 😳🤮 And Nancy’s reaction afterward is absolutely priceless!

We finish our Dawson City adventure by wandering through the historic downtown, taking in the preserved Gold Rush buildings and imagining what life must have been like during the Klondike Gold Rush.

Then it’s time to catch up on our Living Phase 2 sticker board and add all the new stickers we’ve collected along this incredible Alaska journey.

This day had EVERYTHING—brutal roads, an RV repair, a Yukon River ferry, Gold Rush history, a boat graveyard, live entertainment, and a REAL HUMAN TOE!

1400 Miles on the Alaska Highway

The journey to Alaska continues!

In this episode of our Alaska RV adventure, we leave the breathtaking scenery of Jasper National Park and begin one of the most iconic drives in North America—the legendary 2,200-kilometer journey toward Dawson City along the historic Alaska Highway.

Our first stop is Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, where one of the world’s greatest road trips officially begins.

Along the way, we discover not one—but TWO incredible cinnamon rolls. First, we stop at the famous Hug A Mug Bakery in Dawson Creek, then compare it with the legendary cinnamon rolls at Tetsa River Lodge, a must-stop destination for travelers driving to Alaska.

Next, we relax in the beautiful natural pools at Liard River Hot Springs, one of the most popular stops on the Alaska Highway. Camping behind an electric bear fence made for an unforgettable experience…but the swarms of mosquitoes nearly chased us away! Thankfully, our mosquito tent saved the day.

We continue through Whitehorse, Yukon, before ending our drive at one of the most beautiful campgrounds we’ve ever visited—Tatchun Lake Territorial Campground. Getting there required surviving five miles of one of the roughest roads we’ve driven so far, and by the time we arrived, Nancy had to reorganize the pantry after cans exploded out of the cabinets!

Will our RV fit on the Badger Ferry?

Our epic 3-month Alaska RV adventure has officially begun!

In this episode, we leave home and start the long journey north toward Alaska. Before boarding the famous SS Badger ferry, we spend a beautiful evening in Ludington, Michigan, enjoying an incredible sunset over Lake Michigan.

The next morning, it’s time for the moment we’ve been anticipating—and honestly worrying about. We load our Dynamax Europa motorhome onto the SS Badger for the trip across Lake Michigan.

Would our RV fit?

Would everything go smoothly?

Would our coach be safe during loading and unloading?

As it turns out, the ferry ride was one of the highlights of the trip. We enjoyed the crossing, played the free Badger Bingo (and actually won!), became trivia champions onboard, and avoided battling Chicago traffic with our RV.

Alaska RV Trip Starts Now! Final Prep before 3 months of travel

After months of planning, upgrades, maintenance, and preparation, we’re finally in the home stretch before our epic 3-month Alaska RV adventure!

In this video, we pick up our Dynamax Europa after having a professional ceramic coating applied to help protect the paint from the gravel, dust, and harsh road conditions we’ll encounter on the Alaska Highway. We also finish several interior improvements to improve storage and help block out the nearly endless daylight we’ll experience in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Outside, Mike tackles the final organization of the basement storage bays, making sure every tool, spare part, and piece of gear has a place. Inside, Nancy works her magic organizing and storing the extra groceries and supplies we’ll need for months on the road.

Before departure, we complete some last-minute roof maintenance and perform a final inspection to make sure our motorhome is ready for thousands of miles of adventure through Canada and Alaska.

Touring Panama City Before Our Cruise – Canal, Cusine, Coffee & Culture

We spend 3 days exploring beautiful Panama City, Panama before our Panama Canal cruise — and it completely exceeded our expectations!
From incredible local Panamanian food to walking the historic streets of Casco Viejo, this trip gave us a deeper appreciation for the culture, history, and flavors of Panama. One of the biggest highlights was trying the legendary Panama Geisha Coffee, considered by many to be the best (and most expensive!) coffee in the world. Some batches have sold for more than $13,000 per pound!
We also spent a full day touring the city and visiting some of Panama’s most iconic attractions including the famous Panama Canal locks, the Amador Causeway, the Bridge of the Americas, and the fascinating Panama Viejo Museum. Watching massive ships transiting the canal was an unforgettable experience.
And yes… the food was AMAZING. From authentic Panamanian dishes to incredible fish tacos at Maa Goo, this trip was packed with delicious surprises.
If you’re planning a Panama Canal cruise, we highly recommend arriving a few days early to explore Panama City. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our entire trip.

After leaving our daughter’s farm in Texas, we head east through Louisiana and into Mississippi… and stumble upon one of the most beautiful and affordable RV parks we’ve ever stayed at.

For 3 days, we camp at Roosevelt State Park—and honestly, this place blew us away.

How Long Can We Go?

We’re getting ready for our biggest adventure yet—a 3-month RV trip to Alaska. But before we go, we needed to answer one big question… Can we actually survive off-grid in our motorhome?

So we put it to the test. In this video, we unplug completely—no shore power, no water hookups—and push our RV to the limit during a stretch of cloudy, rainy weather (aka worst-case conditions for solar).

Here’s what we tested: • How long our batteries last with little to no solar charging • Living without a water connection or dumping tanks • Managing power, water, and waste in real-world conditions • And the BIG electrical problem we discovered that could’ve ruined our Alaska trip This was a true reality check for boondocking—and what we learned might surprise you.

Barefoot Beach Cooking In Cozumel, Mexico

Today we are in Cozumel Mexico, and we did some barefoot cooking on our beach excursion. It was a great time! We had margaritas while prepping and then sharing a meal while barefoot on a beautiful Cozumel beach. We highly recommend this excursion if you are in Cozumel.

After our fun on the beach, we went to the wonderful restaurant on Allure of the Seas, “150”. It did NOT disappoint!

Then after our amazing dinner we had some drinks and competed in the game “The Prefect Couple”. It was some real ‘adult’ fun.

As mentioned, before the barefoot beach cookout was announced, we were originally going to go on the Cozumel Bar Hop which is an excursion to book on your own. It is not available through Royal Caribbean or other tour group. We had planned this until this special President’s Cruise Excursion came available. Costa Maya Mexico Port Takeover

Welcome to Day 5 of our Royal Caribbean President’s Cruise.

Today we are in Costa Maya Mexico on Allure of the Seas. Being on the President’s Cruise we got to swap cruise ships and tour our home for the world cruise, Serenade of the Seas.

There was even a Costa Maya Port takeover! Royal took control of the entire port, and we had a great time with free food, drinks and activities.

Upon returning to the ship, we enjoyed some great food at Chops grill and amazing entertainment from MO5AIC. They were incredible. Here’s a link to find where they are performing. http://www.mo5aic.com/
